Dr. Tapp's Thought's

As we close out another year at the Peterborough Centre of Naturopathic Medicine, I want to pause and say thank you.

Whether you’ve been a long-time patient, a brand-new reader, or someone who simply keeps showing up for your own health, you are the heartbeat of what we do.

Your trust, your curiosity, and your willingness to do the hard work make this clinic what it is. This year also marked a personal milestone for me: I invested in myself and completed a year-long business coaching program with a powerhouse group of female entrepreneurs and naturopathic clinic owners. These women reminded me again and again that leadership and growth don’t happen in isolation. They happen in community with people who challenge you, support you, and gently (or not so gently) nudge you out of your comfort zone. I’m deeply grateful for the program coach and these women.

In one of our final sessions, we discussed a framework that I’ve decided to carry with me into 2026. I loved it so much that not only did I complete it myself, but I’m bringing it to my team at our next staff meeting, and I want to offer it to you as a meaningful year-end reflection.

It’s called the F-H-A-T-E Manifesto, and it’s one way to set intentions without falling into the “new year, new me” routine.

F = Focus: What are you choosing to focus on in the coming year? What deserves your time, energy, and attention?

H = Habits: What habits must stay, and which ones must go? Who is the version of you you’re becoming, and how do they behave?

A = Anchor: What grounds you? What pulls you back to centre when things get busy, stressful, or overwhelming?

T = Tolerance: What are you no longer tolerating? Declare it boldly. Draw the line. “Because I am someone who…”

E = Emotion: And finally, why does any of this matter? What feeling are you chasing? What emotion tells you you’re on the right path?

As we head into a new year together, I hope this framework gives you space to breathe, reflect, and choose with intention. You deserve a life that feels aligned, empowered, and genuinely yours.

Cheers to stepping into the strongest, happiest and healthiest version of you in 2026.

Cheering you on - this year, next year, and for many years ahead,

Dr. Brenda Tapp Leonard, ND

Autoimmune thyroid diseases are among the most common autoimmune conditions, especially in women.

While Hashimoto’s eventually slows hormone production in the thyroid gland, and Graves’ Disease speeds it up, both begin with the same underlying issue: a dysregulation that starts reacting to the thyroid.

In this article, we'll explore the role of gut microbiome and gut health in relation to autoimmune thyroid disease, and how naturopathic medicine can support optimal thyroid and immune function.
